Proper dieting is another great way to avoid acne. Avoid dairy such as milk. Drink soy milk instead. Iodine also contributes, such as the iodine that you find in seafood. Then there are soft drinks and sweets that can contribute to your acne as well. These can be replaced with healthy foods.
While no food has been scientifically proven to cause acne, any food that you have an allergy to, will cause an acne breakout. You can have food allergies without realizing it - the only sign of the allergy may, in fact, be the acne breakout. For this reason, you should pay close attention to the foods that you eat, and keep records of what you have eaten when your skin breaks out. You might also want to visit an allergist to find out what you are allergic to. Most people are allergic to at least one food, even if they do not realize it.
The skin contains sebaceous glands, which have receptors, like most organs and cells in the body. Just as the muscle cells respond to steroids by growing, the sebaceous glands respond to steroids (particularly the androgen Dihydrotestosterone which the body produces as a byproduct of increased testosterone) with increased secretion. Just as the teenager with high testosterone levels suffers from acne, the 40-year old man with artificially high testosterone levels will suffer from acne for the same reason. The higher the dose, the higher the testosterone level in the body, which results in worse cases of acne.
